Traditions Rooted Within Trees

While working out of Sofia, Bulgaria, the trees and flowers blooming for spring adds to the scenery of this amazing country.

While on my walks through out the town, I discovered red and white ribbons tied into knots along with dolls and shoes of the same color.

Apparently, there’s a Bulgarian tradition of Martenitsa, Where red and white threads are place onto fruit trees and flowers associated with the first signs of spring.

The tradition says, many believe these threads bring health or fertility depending on what tree or flower has been weaved.
